Abstract

This research explores how arts integration can act as a catalyst for student-centered learning in social science classrooms. It highlights the limitations of rote memorization and standardized testing in fostering meaningful engagement. Through the incorporation of theatre, poetry, and visual storytelling, learners are encouraged to actively construct knowledge and relate it to their own experiences. The study presents qualitative data from diverse classrooms demonstrating increased participation and motivation. It also reveals that arts-based methods help students better understand abstract concepts such as culture, identity, and power relations. Teachers reported improved classroom dynamics and stronger student-teacher relationships. However, the paper also identifies barriers such as time constraints and lack of resources. It recommends policy-level interventions to integrate arts-based strategies into mainstream education systems. Ultimately, the study positions arts integration as a powerful tool for reimagining pedagogy.
